Lifeguard Certificate

Lifeguarding is a highly rewarding occupation requiring strong service oriented individuals, a high degree of personal fitness, and a strong grasp of emergency techniques. In the United States of America, the red cross organization is recognized as the leading educator in water athletics and water teaching. You wouldn't want to do a lap workout in these, but they're an awesome pick for pool activities like basketball, floating and more casual swimming.
We have undergone this process maintaining the principle that best practice in lifeguarding should be based on the best and most scientific Lifeguard courses evidence available, and that once that evidence is identified, it should be relevant for and apply to all lifeguard training.

There are minor differences between these skills depending on the organization that trained the lifeguard. American Aquatics & Safety Training does offer a Blended Learning option. Our sister company JTA CPR provides both Red Cross mobile training to your group or business and public classes where individuals can attend, serving CA , San Francisco HI , FL, and TX since 1991.
Swimmers train many hours in the pool but also train out of the water. The American Lifeguard Association (ALA) has been offering training for over 30 years. Candidates should bring Alert, a whistle, barrier devices (gloves and pocket mask) and proof of prerequisite (previous National Lifeguard).
Swim meets are held in either short-course pools that are 25 yards or 25 meters long, or long-course pools that are 50 meters long. Regardless of the type of team you are swimming for, you will need to continue to train to improve your times to stay on the team.

When you enroll in a lifeguarding class, there are various tools and resources included depending on your level. The Red Cross has been training and teaching skills for effective responses to all kinds of emergencies for more than 100 years. Offerings include shallow and deep-water fitness classes designed to improve strength, stamina and stability led by certified instructors for ages 17 and up; fitness classes for children; and classes to teach the basics of lap swimming.
If a medical condition or disability exists that might prevent participation in the activities, or there are questions about fully participating in the lifeguard course, please contact us by e-mail to discuss this before beginning the program. The YMCA offers a full YMCA of the USA lifeguard training course that includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPRO) and First Aid, equipment-based rescues for aquatic environments, accident prevention and decision-making skills.

Upon completion of lifeguard training, interested persons may apply for employment with ALA or via ALA's directory of public pools, beaches and waterfronts. This summer I reviewed several in-home companies and was impressed with Happy Swimmers approach of water safety.
Explain the role of public relations in lifeguarding. The American Lifeguard and safety training is a critical service with the support of employers and government agencies nationwide. Put the same swimmer in a 50-meter pool and his time slows to 21.78 seconds or 5.1 miles per hour.
